What a straw poll is (and isn’t)
The name comes from holding up a straw to see which way the wind blows. A straw poll is a quick, non-binding check of where a group stands before a real decision: which restaurant, which feature to build first, whether it’s worth a longer discussion.
Because it isn’t binding, speed matters more than security. PollCraft keeps it quick: create the poll, drop the link in your group chat, and ask people to tap “Send vote” when they’re done. You see the split on your host board.
Tips for a useful straw poll
- Two to five options. More than that and votes scatter so thinly that nothing wins.
- Say it’s non-binding. People vote more honestly when they know it’s a temperature check.
- Use “pick several” for shortlists. When you only want to rule things out, let people tick everything they’d accept.
- Going to decide for real? Switch to ranked choice so the winner has majority support, not just the most first choices.

Is this a Strawpoll alternative?
Yes. PollCraft makes the same kind of quick one-question poll with no signup, and adds QR sharing, pass-the-device voting and CSV/PNG export. The difference is that votes aren’t stored on a server: each voter sends a reply link back to you.
Can I stop people voting twice in a straw poll?
Each browser gets a random voter id, and a second reply from it replaces the first. That is fine for a non-binding straw poll. For binding votes, use pass-the-device in the room.
How long does a straw poll link last?
Forever. The poll lives inside the link, so it never expires and there is nothing to delete on our side.
