Steps: how to make a poll on Discord
- Open the channel or group DM and click or tap the “+” button to the left of the message box.
- Choose Create Poll (it may be labelled just “Poll” on mobile).
- Type the question (up to 300 characters) and up to 10 answers. You can add an emoji to each answer.
- Pick a duration (from 1 hour up to 2 weeks) and tick Allow Multiple Answers if people may pick more than one.
- Post it. Members click an answer and press Vote; they can remove and change their vote until the poll ends.
Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.
Limits to know
- You need the Create Polls permission in that server or channel. If the option is missing, ask a server admin to enable it for your role.
- Discord polls are not anonymous: other members can see who picked each answer.
- Only people in the server can vote, so it doesn’t help with friends outside Discord or a room with a projector.
When a link poll works better
You want a secret ballot, people outside the server need to vote, or you are running the vote live in a room with a QR code on screen.
PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.
Questions people ask
Why can’t I see the poll option on Discord?
Usually because your role lacks the Create Polls permission in that server or channel, or your app needs updating. A server admin can turn the permission on under Server Settings → Roles, or per channel under Permissions.
Are Discord polls anonymous?
No. Members can see who voted for each answer. For an anonymous vote, share a PollCraft link with anonymous mode on, or use a poll bot that offers anonymous voting.
How long can a Discord poll run?
You choose a duration when creating it, from 1 hour up to 2 weeks. Votes can be changed until it closes.
