How to create a poll in Outlook

Outlook has two poll features: a Microsoft Forms quick poll you insert into an email, and the older voting buttons in classic Outlook for Windows.

Steps

  1. Quick poll: start a new email, open the Insert tab and choose Poll. Enter the question and options in the Forms panel, then Insert to embed the poll in the email.
  2. Voting buttons (classic Outlook for Windows): in a new email, open the Options tab, choose Use Voting Buttons, pick a set such as Yes;No or define your own, and send.
  3. Track voting-button replies from the sent message’s Tracking view; quick poll results appear in Microsoft Forms.

Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.

Limits to know

  • Voting buttons work best when recipients also use Outlook.
  • Quick polls need a Microsoft 365 account to create.

When a link poll works better

Recipients use different email apps, or you want the same poll on a screen with a QR code. Paste a PollCraft link into the email, and add your address in the poll settings so replies come back by email.

PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.
