How to make a poll in Google Forms

Google Forms is a survey tool, but a single multiple-choice question makes a perfectly good poll. You need a Google account to create one.

Steps

  1. Go to Google Forms and start a blank form.
  2. Type the question, keep the type as Multiple choice (or Checkboxes for several answers) and add your options.
  3. In Settings, decide whether to collect email addresses or limit to one response; limiting requires voters to sign in to Google.
  4. Click Send and copy the link, or send it by email.
  5. Open the Responses tab to see a chart that updates as answers arrive.

Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.

Limits to know

  • Creating a form requires a Google account; limiting to one response per person requires voters to have one too.
  • There’s no built-in projector view or QR code.

When a link poll works better

You don’t want to sign in anywhere, need a QR code and a full-screen results view for a room, or want an in-room secret ballot on one device.

PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.

Questions people ask

Can I make a Google Forms poll anonymous?

Yes, if you don’t collect email addresses and don’t limit to one response. Limiting responses requires sign-in, which records who answered.

Is Google Forms good for live polls?

It updates results as answers arrive, but it has no presentation mode or QR code. PollCraft adds both.
