Steps: how to create a poll in Zoom
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal, open Settings, and check that Meeting Polls/Quizzes (or Polling) is turned on.
- Go to Meetings, open your scheduled meeting, scroll to the Polls/Quizzes section and click Add (or Create).
- Enter a title and your question, choose single or multiple choice, add the answers and save. Tick anonymous if you don’t want names in the report.
- In the meeting, click Polls/Quizzes on the toolbar, choose the poll and click Launch. End the poll to share the results.
Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.
Limits to know
- The host needs a licensed Zoom account; free accounts may not have polling.
- By default only the original host can create or edit polls during the meeting; co-hosts can launch ones that already exist.
- Hosts generally need the desktop client to run polls; participants can vote from the desktop or mobile apps.
When a link poll works better
You are on a free Zoom account, the meeting is in a room with people not on the call, or you want a poll ready in 30 seconds without the portal.
PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.
Questions people ask
Why is the poll option missing in Zoom?
Polling must be enabled in your web portal settings, the host must be licensed, and the meeting must be scheduled or use your Personal Meeting ID. If the setting is greyed out, your account admin has locked it.
Can I run a poll on a free Zoom account?
Zoom’s polling requires a licensed host. On a free account, paste a PollCraft link into the Zoom chat and show the results with screen share.
