How to make a poll in WhatsApp

WhatsApp has built-in polls in both group and one-to-one chats. Votes are visible to everyone in the chat.

Steps

  1. Open the group or chat.
  2. Tap the attach button: “+” on iPhone, the paperclip on Android.
  3. Choose Poll.
  4. Type your question and up to 12 options. Leave “Allow multiple answers” on or off as you need.
  5. Tap Send. Members tap an option to vote and can change their vote later.

Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.

Limits to know

  • Votes are not anonymous: chat members can see who voted for what.
  • Only people in that chat can vote, so you can’t reuse the poll elsewhere or put it on a screen.

When a link poll works better

You need an anonymous vote, want to show a QR code at an event, or your voters aren’t all in the same WhatsApp group. Paste a PollCraft link into the chat and people send their vote back with one tap.

PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.
