Steps
- Open the chat or channel where you want the poll.
- Below the message box, open the apps/actions menu (the “+” or “…” button) and choose Polls (Microsoft Forms).
- Type the question and at least two options. Turn on multiple answers if people may pick more than one.
- Preview, then Send. Results appear on the poll card as people vote.
- In a meeting, open the meeting chat or the Polls tab and create the poll there; you can prepare polls before the meeting starts.
Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.
Limits to know
- Voters generally need access to the chat or meeting, which can exclude external guests depending on your organisation’s settings.
- Results live in Microsoft Forms under the organiser’s account.
When a link poll works better
Your group includes people outside your Microsoft 365 organisation, or you want a QR code on a projector that anyone can scan.
PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.
Questions people ask
Can people outside my organisation vote in a Teams poll?
It depends on your organisation’s guest and Forms settings. If external people can’t see the poll, share a PollCraft link in the chat instead; it opens in any browser.
Can a Teams poll be anonymous?
Forms-based polls offer anonymity settings when you create them. Check the option before sending, because it can’t always be changed afterwards.
