How to make a poll on Instagram

Instagram polls come in three places: the poll sticker on a Story, a poll added to a post or reel, and polls inside group chats.

Short answer: Story: create a Story, tap the sticker icon at the top and choose Poll. Type the question and two to four answers, place the sticker and share.

Steps: how to make a poll on Instagram

  1. Story: create a Story, tap the sticker icon at the top and choose Poll. Type the question and two to four answers, place the sticker and share.
  2. Post or reel: after choosing your media, look for the Poll option on the caption screen, add the question and answers, then share.
  3. Group chat: open the group conversation, tap the sticker or “+” icon and choose Poll, then type the question and answers and send it.
  4. See results: on a Story, swipe up (or open the viewers list) to see the totals and who voted for what.

Menus move between app versions, so labels may differ slightly on your device.

Limits to know

  • Story polls disappear with the Story after 24 hours unless you keep it as a Highlight; results stay in your Story archive.
  • Instagram polls aren’t anonymous to you: the creator can see who voted for each answer.
  • Only people who can see your Story, post or chat can vote, and they need the app and an account.

When a link poll works better

You need votes from people who don’t follow you, an anonymous vote, more than four options, or a chart to show on a screen.

PollCraft polls open in any browser with no account, come with a QR code and a full-screen results view, and can run as a secret ballot on one device. How votes reach you.

Questions people ask

How many options can an Instagram poll have?

The Story poll sticker allows up to four answers. Polls in group chats and on posts have their own limits shown in the app as you add answers.

Can people see what I voted on an Instagram poll?

The person who posted the poll can see who voted for each answer. Other viewers see percentages, not names.

Can I make an anonymous poll on Instagram?

Not with the built-in sticker. Put a PollCraft anonymous poll link in your Story with the link sticker; votes come back without names.
